Lower Back Strengthening Exercises

Balancing or strengthening your core will help protect your lower back.

There are specific muscles that need to be strengthened for lower back support.

In Yoga one Asana that uses these specific muscles is the Crow Pose (Bakasana).

An advanced technique to test your core muscles

1 Starting position is kneeling on the floor toes flat on the ground.

2 Place your hands on the floor to support your weight and bring your knees to your chest.

3 Using your core abdominal muscles bring your legs through to eventually achieve Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana). Your feet fold over each other and pull though.

You can practise simply going from the kneeling position to bringing the knees to the chest until you are comfortable bringing your legs through. Use your fists instead of your hands until you have this exercise mastered.
