To do a headstand safely you ideally do it with a teacher who prepares you first.
The preparation may take some weeks to develop the strength and reduce the pressure on your neck.
When you do a headstand correctly there is very little pressure on your neck.
Your neck is straight and elongated.
Many teachers will start with Downward Facing Dog, Plank and Dolphin to help activate the required muscles.
Then the teacher will guide you through preparation of the transition, but not to the full pose.
Next is some practise on a wall to ensure you do not panic and fall over.
Some teachers will setup blocks to help force your neck into the correct position.
Finally you will get to attempt the pose.
When coming out of this inversion, rest in Child's Pose.
